HEAT TREATABLE STEELS
Heat Treatable Steels; Due to having high amount of carbon in their chemical composition, have a high tensile strength and a ductile structure. These steels, which are treated by hardening and tempering, are non-alloyed and alloyed machine-building steels with high toughness. Unalloyed tempered steels should be used in small cross section parts. While, in thick sections, sufficient hardening depth and homogeneity of hardness distribution could be achieved by tempered alloyed steels.
Heat Treatable Steels are classified into 4 groups according to their chemical composition as follows:
- Unalloyed Heat Treatable Steels: Heat treating resistance increases with the amount of carbon.
- Manganese Alloyed Heat Treatable Steels: Since manganese increases hardenability, the yield limit in 30Mn4 and 40Mn4 steels is as high as in C60 (1060) steel.
- Chromium Alloy Heat Treatable Steels: Chromium component increases hardenability and plasticity.
- Chromium-Molybdenum Alloyed Heat Treatable Steels: Molybdenum provides more hardenability comparing to chromium. It increases the tempering strength and reduces the possibility of temper brittleness.
Due to the good mechanical features acquired by the curing process, curing steels are used in a wide range of areas, including manufacturing parts like various car and engine parts, forging parts, gears, bolts, crankshafts, piston rods, nut studs, axles, control drive parts.
It could be produced in standard lengths of 3-6 meter and special sizes in accordance with TS EN 10277-5 Quality Standard and TS EN 10278 Dimensions and Tolerances Standard. [41Cr4 (SAE5140), 42CRMo4 (SAE4140), 34CrNiMo6 (SAE4340), 34CrMo4 (SAE4135), 50CrMo4 (SAE4150), 34Cr4 (SAE5132),…..]
